Charles F. Yaitanes, 86, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at his home in Kissimmee, FL on Friday, March 27 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 63 years to Ann (Pappas) Yaitanes. Son of the late Fred and Stella (Milonopoulous) Yaitanes, he was born in Boston, educated in Randolph schools and graduated from Stetson High School. He was a resident of Stoughton for 65 years. Mr. Yaitanes was a commercial real estate agent for Re Max Landmark in Stoughton. Prior to that he was the owner of Stoughton Real Estate for many years. Mr. Yaitanes was Past President of both the Stoughton Lions Club and Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and a member of both organizations for over 50 years. He was elected 9 times to the Stoughton Board of Selectman, the most in Stoughton's history. He was also Past President of the Norfolk County Selectman's Association. He conducted a fact finding tour of Vietnam in 1969 and was named Man of the Year by 3 different organizations that year. He was the author of "My Son's War," a novel about finding his son in Vietnam, which was published in 2008.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Yaitanes is survived by his sons, Fred Yaitanes and his wife Nadine Israel of Stoughton, George Yaitanes and his wife Carol of Palm Bay, FL and Dennis Yaitanes and his wife Janet of Taunton. He was the brother of the late James F. Yaitanes and Nicholas F. Yaitanes. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, April 1 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Service at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Brockton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' name may be made to the Charles F.
