Charles R. Penney

Charles R. Penney, 88, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Southeast Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Easton on Sunday, October 16. He was the husband of Violet Gertrude (Noseworthy) Penney. Born and educated in Boston, he attended Boston University and Staley College. Mr. Penney was a resident of Stoughton for over 40 years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Penney was a letter carrier at the South Postal Annex for many years. He also worked at Manton-Gaulin Mfg. for 15 years and sold life insurance for Metropolitan Life. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and taught CCD at St. Michael's Church in Avon. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the AMVETS McKeon Post 146 in Dorchester and the AMVETS Post 1977 in Stoughton.

Mr. Penney was the father of Susanne Ostroff, Charles R. Penney, Jr. and Patrick J. Penney all of Stoughton, Arthur P. Penney of Lakeville and the late Richard A. Penney. He was the brother of the late Francis and Harold Penney. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, October 20 from 9-10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, donations in Charles' memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Assn., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
