Charles J. Heirty Jr., 81, died October 5, at Braemoor nursing home in Brockton. Born in Dorchester, son of the late Charles Sr. and Mary (Lydon) Heirty, he was raised and educated in Dorchester and attended Boston Trade School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked for many years at Belcher Shoe Company in Stoughton and later at Burgess Brothers in Canton as a machinist, retiring in 1996. Charlie lived for many years at Braemoor Nursing Home, where he leaves many dear friends among the residents and staff. He was very active with Alcoholics Anonymous for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed his dogs, gardening, cooking, watching TV and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Carle) Heirty, of Stoughton; four children, Debra Flynn and her husband Joe of Stoughton, Donna O'Donnell and her husband Richard of Palermo, ME, Charles J. "Joe" Heirty III of Stoughton, and Diane Pucino and her husband Anthony of Norton. He was a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren: Bill Flynn, Ricky O'Donnell, Tom O'Donnell, Ian Wilson, Jessica Pucino and Nicholas Pucino. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Ahern and Anna Heirty.

Funeral services will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, October 9 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the services from 9-10 AM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Braemoor Nursing Home Patient Activities Fund, 34 North Pearl St., Brockton, 02301.
