Charles F. Butler Sr., of Easton, formerly of Brockton, died Wednesday morning at the home of his granddaughter in Brockton under the care of hospice and his family.
Born in Cambridge on Oct. 31, 1929, a son of the late Matthew P. and Katherine (Morrison) Butler, he was raised in Boston and was a graduate of BC High. A veteran of the US Army he served during the Korean Conflict. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Boston College and furthered his education by graduating from Suffolk Law School.
He was employed by the IRS as an auditor and was a self-employed tax attorney. He was a professor at Stonehill College in Easton for many years teaching business law. An active member of AA, he was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Easton.
He is survived by seven children, Katherine Mattson of Halifax, David Butler, of Brockton, Charles F. Butler Jr., Paul Butler of Silt, CO., Maureen Butler of Marstons Mills, Sheila Butler of Marina Del Rey, CA., and John Butler of West Bridgewater; a sister, Mary Mullaney of Dennis; three brothers, Matthew P. Butler, Jr. of North Miami, FL., Fr. Richard J. Butler of St. Mary's Church, Brookline and Fr. Robert J. Butler of St. Agatha's Church, Milton; eight grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday from the Farley Funeral Home 358 Park Street, Stoughton, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Easton. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
