Charles M. “Chuck” Bittner, 91, died Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the LifeCare Center in Raynham, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters. Born in West Newton, PA, son of the late Charles M. and Blanche (Miller) Bittner, he was raised and educated in West Newton, PA and a graduate of West Newton High School. He then attended California State College of Pennsylvania and later earned his Masters Degree from Boston College. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. In 1967 he married Bonnie A. Smith, and together they shared 57 years of marriage and raised 3 beloved daughters. They made their home in Stoughton over 55 years ago. Chuck worked as a Math Teacher at Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Lexington for over 20 years, retiring in 1993. Prior to that he worked at Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston. He was a member of the Mass Teachers Association. Chuck was a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church and previously was a member of the United Methodist Church, both in Stoughton, where he served as a lay leader of several boards. He was a dedicated husband, father and Papa. Along with his family, they enjoyed road trips and had traveled to all of the 48 contiguous states, with some of his favorites being Colorado, Utah, South Dakota and Arizona. When he wasn’t traveling, he enjoyed working around his house and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Bonnie, Chuck is survived by his three loving daughters, Karen A. McMahon and her husband John of Middleboro, Janet E. Matthews of Raynham and Ginger A. McNulty and her husband Thomas of Stoughton. He was the cherished Papa of Sean M. McMahon, Hailey N. McMahon, Montana P. Matthews, David C. Matthews, Mitchell C. Matthews and Dillon T. McNulty. He was the brother of the late Ruth Smith and brother in law of Laurel and Gordon McCluskie of NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, January 15 from 2-4 PM with Funeral Prayers to follow at 4 PM. Donations in Chuck’s memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, JFK Federal Building, 15 New Sudbury St., Boston, MA 02203.
