Catarina Nunes de Sousa

Catarina Nunes de Sousa of South Easton MA, 97 years old, passed away peaceful with family at Good Samaritan Medical Center on October 25, 2024. She was born and raised on the island of Flores in the Azores, Portugal on October 22, 1927 to Constantino Nunes and Rosa de Castro Nunes. 

She immigrated to the United States and settled in Stoughton, MA with her family in 1974 and worked at Shawmut Mills before retiring to take care of her late husband. Catarina enjoyed knitting, cooking, reading the Portuguese newspaper regularly, going to the beach and spending time with her large family. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society of Azores.

Catarina was preceded in death by her husband Joao Sousa, her son Jorge Sousa, and siblings Maria Nunes Felix, Constantino Nunes, João Nunes, José Nunes, António Nunes, Alberto Nunes, Roberto Nunes, Esmenia Cabral, Maria Gouveia and Alfredo Nunes. She is survived by eight of her children, João Constantino Nunes de Sousa de Santa of Flores, Jay Souza of Chester, NH, Leopoldo Sousa of Albany NY, Rosa Sousa Lopes of South Easton, Tony Sousa, Fatima Sousa, and Teresa Sousa all of Stoughton, and Mário Sousa of West Bridgewater, their spouses, many grand-children, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be mailed to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
