Casimiro Pina Tavares, 83, died at home in Stoughton on Tuesday, January 22 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Maria J. (Correia) Tavares. The son of the late Antonio Pina Tavares and Josefina G. (Galvao) Tavares, he was born and educated in Cape Verde. In 1944 he joined the Army in Cape Verde. He moved to Angola in 1962 where he stayed until moving to Cambridge in 1978. Mr. Tavares lived in Cambridge until moving to Kissemmee, FL for a year. The past 2 years he has resided in Stoughton. In his free time he loved horseback riding and dancing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Tavares is survived by his children, Joaquina Barbosa of Somerville, Madelena DaCosta of Cambridge, Josefina Santos of FL, Julio Tavares of Somerville, Carlos Tavares of Brockton, Maria L. Tavares of Stoughton, Arthur Tavares of Cambridge, Beatriz Pires of Stoughton, Euridice Tavares of Brockton and Carla Tavares of Canton. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, January 26 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 5-9 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
