Carolyn E. Allen

Carolyn E. (Hazen) Allen, 90, passed away peacefully at Braemoor Health Center on November 30, 2014. Born in Brookfield on January, 21, 1924, she was the daughter of G. Clinton and Florence Hazen and sister to Rosamund Smith, Clyde Hazen, Walter Hazen and Edith Rayner, all deceased. For sixty-one years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Robert D. Allen, until his death in 2003. She was the loving mother of three. Oldest son Gene Robert, died in 2006. She leaves a daughter, Kay C. Giroux and her husband Frank of Stoughton and son Bruce K. Allen and his partner, Kay Micklitsch of Malden, two grandson, Sean Allen of Great Barrington and Brian Allen of West Springfield and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Francis.
Mrs. Allen is also survived by six step-grandchildren and spouses, Robert Giroux and wife Donna, Donald Giroux and wife Andrea, Richard Giroux and wife Julie, David Giroux and wife Donna, Marie Walker and husband Thomas and Lorraine McKenna and husband Gene, and twenty-one step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren. Carolyn was a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.
She attended Worcester Girls Trade School to study dressmaking. During World War II, she worked at Gavitt Wire and Cable while her husband, Robert, was away in military service. Later, she worked at Oxford Precision in West Springfield for several years.
In the early 1970's, she and Robert moved from Southwick to Great Barrington and enjoyed many years together in their much loved log cabin home. She was a member of the First Congregational Church there. Carolyn enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She was also an animal lover.
Funeral Service will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, December 4 at 7 PM. Visiting Hours prior from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at a later date. Officiating Clergy will be Rev. Mary Perry. Donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to First Congregational Church, UCC, 251 Main St., PO Box 660, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
