Carmen J. Díaz de Mier y Terán, 80, died Friday Morning, October 15, 2021, at her home in Boston's North End, surrounded by her beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born, raised and educated in Caracas, Venezuela, she lived the majority of her life in Caracas. She married Eduardo A. Mier y Terán in Caracas over 62 years ago, and together they raised 6 children. She was a highly respected educator and was the founder of three Catholic schools in Caracas: Las Mandarinas, Centro Don Bosco 88 and Colegio Integral El Avila. She always realized the value of education and earned her Bachelors degree from Universidad Metropolitana and her Masters Degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, both in Caracas. Carmen was a person who believed in bringing out the best in people, and was a positive light of change for both the young and old. She loved traveling, especially to Paris, and enjoyed the theater arts, especially ballet and zarzuelas. Above all, she loved spending quality time with her husband, loving children and her cherished grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Carmen is survived by her children; María Eugenia and Victor Rivero, Eduardo and Elena Mier y Terán, Enrique Mier y Terán and Ana Toro, Anamaría and James Barron, Maria Gabriela and Luis Alvarez and Camila and Esteban Dávila. She was the sister of Luis José, José María, Ricardo and Ignacio Díaz Zuloaga. She is also survived by her grandchildren: María Luisa and Juan Ignacio Rivero Mier y Terán; Eduardo, Francisco, Santiago and Guillermo Mier y Terán Madureri; Corina and Tyler Fitzpatrick, Diego and Isabella Mier y Terán Borges; Brendan, Matthew and Patrick Barron Mier y Terán; Cristina, Fernando and Carlota Guruceaga Mier y Terán; and Pablo, José Miguel and Antonio Dávila Mier y Terán.
Visiting Hour will be held in the St. Lawrence Church, 774 Boylston St., (Rte. 9) Brookline on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 11AM-12PM followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 PM. Burial will follow at Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
