Bridget P. "Bridie" (Fitzgibbon) Calabrese

Bridget P. "Bridie" (Fitzgibbon) Calabrese, 94, a resident of Stoughton for the past 70 years, died on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. Bridget was the beloved wife of James I. Calabrese for 73 years. She was born in Ireland, the daughter of Timothy and Mary (Barry) Fitzgibbon and was raised in Drumcollogher in County Limerick. Bridget joined her sisters in London in 1942 where they all worked during World War II. It was there that she met her husband Jim on a blind date. They were married on February 15, 1945 at St. Alban's Church in N. Finchley. In 1946 she came to the United States as a war bride on the Queen Mary and settled in Stoughton. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid cook and enjoyed boating and fishing on the North River but most of all being a homemaker and gathering her family together for dinners. In later years she delighted in visits from family.

In addition to her husband, Bridget is survived by her daughter, Christine A. Reilly and her husband Paul of Easton and her son James K. Calabrese and his wife Anne of Plymouth. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Kerri Reilly Lorenzo, Jennifer Graziano, Kathleen Fields, Courtney Settlers, and Kristin Settlers. Bridget was the twin sister of Catharine Carroll of England and sister of the late Nell Connell, Stasia Meehan, Josie Timinieks, Mary Fitzgibbon, and Der Fitzgibbon. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Monday, July 16 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bridget's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
