Beth Riddle

Beth (Blalock) Riddle, 81, died Friday, October 25, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late James H. Riddle. Born in Charleston, SC, she moved to Columbia, SC when she was a young girl. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of South Carolina. While in South Carolina, she was a longtime member of the Brookland United Methodist Church in West Columbia, where she was a member of the Young at Heart Group and a Sunday School teacher to the senior citizens. Mrs. Riddle taught Business and Secretarial Courses at Midlands Technical College in West Columbia, SC for over 15 years, retiring 20 years ago. Throughout her lifetime, students remembered her and appreciated the education and skills she helped them achieve. After her retirement she devoted herself to community service in the West Columbia, SC area. She was a funny, sweet, and kind woman who enjoyed dining out, culture and talking with friends, both old and new. She became immediate friends with everyone she met, and showed love and appreciation for all around her. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, politics and current events. She was a longtime resident of West Columbia, SC and moved to Stoughton in 2007 to be closer to her daughter and her family.

She is survived by her daughter Ellen (Riddle) Penniman and husband Alan Penniman of Stoughton. Mrs. Riddle was the grandmother of Ben, Abby and Annabelle. She was the sister of the late Dee Dee Salter of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephew: Patsy Gambrell, Lynn Cain and Ed Salter.

Memorial Services will be held in the First Congregational Church, 76 Pierce St., Stoughton on Tuesday, November 5 at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours omitted. Donations in Beth's memory may be made to Heifer International, PO Box 8058, Little Rock, AR, 72203-8058 or to the American Stroke Assoc., 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
