Barbara A. (Carlyn) Burrill Rivers, 90, of Brockton, formerly of Scarborough, Maine, went to be with her beloved Gordon on Sunday, April 21, 2019. Barbara was the wife of the late Gordon B. Burrill and the daughter of the late Alfred and Isabella (Innis) Carlyn. Raised and educated in Hull, she graduated from Hingham High School and went on to work for the Phoenix London Insurance Company of Boston, where she made many lifelong friends.
Barbara met the love of her life, Gordon, one sunny day at Onset Beach. She and Gordon married on August 3, 1952 and they settled in Brockton, raising three children. The family spent many years on Cape Cod in Pocasset with Gordon's parents and ultimately moved there. Barbara and Gordon ran the family business, C.P. Burrill Trucking, Inc. until it's closing and she then worked for Brockton Orthopaedic Associates until retirement. Barbara was a longtime member of the Pearl Street United Methodist Church.
Barbara was the mother of Linda A. (Burrill) Mitkus and her husband John of Bristol, ME, Curtis B. Burrill and his wife Laura of Scarborough, ME and Cheryl Lyn (Burrill) Ethier of Pocasset. She was the grandmother of Lt. Commander Scott B. Burrill and his wife Anna, SFC Joseph R. Mitkus and his wife Kimberly, Jared G. Mitkus and his wife Jennifer, Curtis P. Burrill, II, Kimberly (Burrill) Hjort and her husband Nathan, Ashlyn Ethier and Samantha Ethier. She was the great-grandmother of Sean, Kendra, Cadence, Cassidy and Kobe. She was predeceased by her siblings, Richard, Evelyn and Alfred Carlyn. Additionally, she is predeceased by her second husband, Kenneth Rivers.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton on Thursday, May 2 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior from 10-11 AM. Interment will take place at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
