Barbara M. (Lutted) O'Donnell, 98, died Thursday, August 24, 2017, at her home in Stoughton, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Eugene O'Donnell. Born and raised in Stoughton, she was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools. She was also a graduate of Bridgewater State Teacher's College. Mrs. O'Donnell was a longtime dedicated teacher and guidance counselor for the Stoughton School Department. She retired many years ago. She loved to teach and mentor students both in and out of the classroom and always encouraged her students to strive to be their best. She took particular pride in the accomplishments of one of her students and advisees, Dr. Robert Lanza, who became a world renowned stem cell and regenerative medicine expert. Dr. Lanza remained a close and dedicated friend throughout her life. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling with her sister.
Mrs. O'Donnell is survived by her sister, Helen H. Hansen of Stoughton. She was the aunt of Rawley Hansen of Brockton, formerly of Yarmouth, Amy Perlman O'Donnell of UT, Daniel Perlman of PA and the late Bill Hansen. Also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
