Barbara J. (Hanrahan) Norton, 77, died Saturday, August 18, 2018, at her home, after a long illness. She was the wife of 56 years of William F. Norton. Born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Randolph and was a graduate of Randolph High School. Mrs. Norton was a proud resident of Stoughton for over 52 years and loved living in Stoughton. She worked for the Town of Stoughton as a Crossing Guard for many years and also as a Clerk in the Assessor's Office for several years. She was a longtime representative at Stoughton Town Meeting. Barbara was a dedicated mother and volunteered as a CCD Teacher, Brownie leader and softball coach. She enjoyed her weekly outings with the Tuesday Ladies Lunch Group and was a member of the Port Norfolk Yacht Club in Dorchester. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, grandchildren – loved by many more and known to all as Nana Norton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barbara M. (Leoffler) Hogan and her husband Frank, Karry E. Castro and her husband Michael and W. Patrick Norton and his longtime companion Michaela McGrath all of Stoughton. She was the beloved grandmother of Maggie and Stephen Leoffler, Abigail, Natalie and Bridget Castro and Camille, Patrice and Jeanette Hogan. She was the sister of Marie VanLaarhoven of Boston, Donna Hanrahan-Poor of Randolph, Donald Hanrahan of Sandwich and Susan Giesler of E. Bridgewater. Barbara was predeceased by her son-in-law John G. Leoffler. She was the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, August 22 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday, August 21 from 4-7 PM. Donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
