Barbara Ann (Homer) Hammel, 91, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William P. Hammel for 65 years. Daughter of the late Alloyous and Marie (Frietag) Homer, she was born in Dedham and raised in Readville. She resided in Stoughton since 1954. Barbara was the owner of Barbara Ann’s Poultry Farm in Stoughton for many years before working as a nursing assistant at Village Rest Home in Easton for several years until her retirement. She shared many wonderful years wintering in Florida with her husband. She was a member of the VFW Post 1645 Ladies Auxiliary in Stoughton. She was an avid reader, creative cook and also enjoyed her time in the pool for the last 8 years with the National Physical Therapy group in Stoughton. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved life and loved to laugh.
Barbara was the mother of Gerald Hammel of Little Compton, RI, Michael Hammel and Margaret of Micco, FL, Cynthia Louko and her husband Steven of Easton, Donald Hammel and Francis Hammel both of Stoughton and the late William P. Hammel, Jr. She was the sister of Joseph Homer of Wayland and the late Alloyous, Robert, Casper and John Homer, Pearl Kiely, Marie Kelly, Rose Colleran and Joann Nelson. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, November 2 from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Barbara‘s memory may be made to VFW Post 1645, 837 Washington St., Stoughton MA 02072.
