Barbara A. (Rafferty) Galanis, 77, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Saturday, February 12 surrounded by her family. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Cathedral High School. She was a resident of Stoughton for the past 53 years. Mrs. Galanis was a switchboard operator at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton for the past 31 years. In her free time, she enjoyed Bingo at Foxwoods, Sudoku puzzles, knitting, reading and spending time with her family, especially in Martha's Vineyard.
Mrs. Galanis is survived by her children, Mary E. O'Brien and her husband John of Stow, Arlene C. Galanis-Cachopa and her husband Manny, Peter L. Galanis and his wife Amanda and Richard A. Galanis all of Stoughton, Robert J. Galanis and his wife Loretta of Canton, Paul E. Galanis and his wife Rosie of Mansfield and John J. Galanis and his wife Meredith of Sandwich. She was the aunt of Bill McCarthy III, his wife Lisa and son Bill IV of Raynham and loving friend of Lana and Bob Wolffe. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, February 17 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Burial will be private. Donations in Barbara's name may be made to St. James Youth Ministry, 560 Page St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
