Ayleen G. (Gray) Craig, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Harold V. Craig. Born and educated in Greenville, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Gray, Jr. and Lillian Finch Gray. She was a resident of Easton since 1955.
As a young woman, She was "Tex" of the country western team of "Bill and Tex", the Singing Sweethearts. Together with Jay McMasters, they formed the Boston Barn Dance on radio station WMEX in Boston. "Bill and Tex" appeared on the "Big D Jamboree" in Dallas, TX along with Hank Locklin and Floyd Tillman. They made many appearances in the local area like Lincoln Park in RI, and the Frontier Valley in Dennis, and had a regular Saturday afternoon radio show on WBET in Brockton. Tex was also a disc jockey for WPEP in Taunton, MA. She appeared on the Jimmy Dean Show in New York City, and on stage at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. She made appearances with such country notables as Jim Reeves, Roy Acuff, Kitty Wells, Minnie Pearl, Chet Atkins, Eddie Jack and Roy Clark
Tex also did advance publicity for the World's Championship Rodeo with Ray Whitley, interviewing stars Gene Autry, Gail Davis (TV's Annie Oakley), Roy Rogers, Range Rider and Dick West, Jim Brown and the cast of TV's Rin Tin Tin, as well as many others.
After her career in show business, she travelled extensively, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Greece, Alaska, and Canada.
She is survived by her beloved children, Stephen Sinclair and his wife Maureen of Marshfield, Philip Sinclair and his wife Michelle of Attleboro, and Jeanne Sinclair of California. She was the sister of Pat Watson of Blossom and Judy Ann Gray both of TX and the late Nellie Cushing, Dorothy Mullen, Betty McCoy, Sammy Gray, Jerry Gray, Jimmie Edmona Gray, Carolyn Gray and Billy Gray. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren and many, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and her great and good friend Vanda Walsh of Easton, MA.
Funeral will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, May 2, at 10AM. Visiting Hours Monday, May 1 from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
