Avelino A. Fernandes, 66, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Son of the late Jose and Maria (Araujo) Fernandes, he was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Flores, Azores, Portugal. Avelino was a resident of Stoughton for over 30 years. He was the owner of Fernandes Landscaping and Casa Portuguesa, both in Stoughton. He enjoyed tinkering with everything, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Avelino is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth F. Lozano and her husband Louis of Stoughton and Melanie F. Keefe and her husband William of Bridgewater, as well as his granddaughters, Brianna, Katelyn and Isabel Lozano. He was the brother of the late Jose Fernandes and the uncle of Joe Fernandes of Westport.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, July 12 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
