Arthur A. Lombard

Arthur A. Lombard, 89, died Sunday, December 17, at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Beatrice M. (Ierardi) Lombard. Born in New Haven, CT, he attended Quinnipiac College and was a graduate of Boston University. He also studied at Northeastern University.

Mr. Lombard was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine, he was in the Battle of Guadalcanal and earned the rank of Major. He was stationed in the Panama Canal and was the Commandant of Security for the Panama Canal.

Mr. Lombard worked for Bird Machine Company in Walpole for over 35 years as the Chief Accountant and Vice President of Financial Affairs. He was active in Stoughton and the community. He was a longtime member of the Stoughton Town Meeting, Stoughton Historical Society and the Old Colony Council on Aging in Brockton. Mr. Lombard was also active at Immaculate Conception Church on the Parish Council, as a financial consultant and was the former president of St. Mary's Home and School in Stoughton. Mr. Lombard was also active with Stoughton Little League and was a founder of their Minor League System. He was a longtime Red Sox Fan and in his free time enjoyed gardening, golf, playing the banjo and spending winters in Naples, FL.

Mr. Lombard is survived by his children, Gary F. of Dennis, Ken J. Lombard of Sandwich, Christine Keppel Atwood of Easton and John F. Lombard of Randolph. He was the brother of Mary Richards of NY and the late Carmel Lombard. Arthur was the uncle of Clifford Richards, Dana Steele and Douglas Steele. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 grandnephew.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, December 20 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 5-8 PM. Donations in Arthur's name may be made to Stoughton Council of Aging, 110 Rockland St., Stoughton, MA 02072. Burial will follow at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton.
