Arthur J. Lavas, 82, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Milton on Monday, December 30, 2013 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mary F. (Olsen) Lavas. Also brother to the late Lillian Marshal and Irene Thompson. Born in Stoughton, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. Mr. Lavas was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955. Mr. Lavas worked for the Town of Stoughton Department of Public Works for over 25 years as a mechanic and retired in 1993 as the Head Mechanic. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by many friends.
Graveside Services will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Washington Street (Rte 138) Stoughton on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours omitted. Donations in his memory may be made to the Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, 02368.
