Arthur V. Cullen, Jr., 86, died unexpectedly at home in Florida on Tuesday, May 16. He was the husband of the late Marie (Davis) Cullen. Born in Boston, he was a graduate of BC High School and Boston College. He resided in Florida for 8 years after living in Stoughton for 10 years and Weymouth for 8 years. Mr. Cullen was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the 8th Bomber Division, 44th Bomber Group. A Prisoner of War, he was shot down on his 16th mission over Germany. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and 3 Purple Hearts. Mr. Cullen worked as a Funeral Director at Crosby Funeral Home in West Roxbury for 10 years and as a sales representative for Dodge Chemical Company in Cambridge for 20 years. He was also the Board of Registration for Embalming and Funeral Directing Inspector in Massachusetts for several years.
He is survived by his children: E. Anne Haley of Boston, Kathleen Basanta, Stephen Cullen and David Cullen all of NH, Arthur V. Cullen, III of Brookline, Robert Cullen of Lowell, Patricia Cullen and Michael Cullen both of FL. He was the brother of Richard V. of FL and Sr. Helen Cullen, SND of Worcester. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8 PM. Donations in Arthur's name may be made to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
