Arlene B. (Coyne) Tropea, 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, October 16, 2009 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond E. Tropea. Born in Brockton, she was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1946. She was also a 1949 graduate of St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing and attended St. Louis University. She was a resident of Stoughton for many years and wintered in Naples, FL for several years. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Alumni Association, the Stoughton Council on Aging and Volunteered at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home in Stoughton. Mrs. Tropea was a Eucharistic Minister at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and St. Peter the Apostle Church in Naples for many years. She was also a member of the chorus at Riviera Golf Estates in Naples. In her free time, she enjoyed swimming, exercising, telling jokes, dancing, singing and playing tennis.
Mrs. Tropea was the loving mother to her six daughters: Joan M. Hunt and her husband Kevin of Brockton, Susan M. Cadigan and her husband Paul and Ann C. Nagle and her husband Charles all of Stoughton, Jean E. Serrecchia and her husband Armand of Westwood, Karen T. Whitney and her husband Darryl of Maynard and Clare T. O'Malley and her husband Patrick of Wrentham. She was the beloved grandmother of Carolyn and Stephen Hunt, Jonathan and Christopher Cadigan, Corrine, Charles and Cassandra Nagle, Julia and Emma Serrecchia, Taylor, Jacalyn and Chad Whitney and Michael, Bridget and Celia O'Malley. She is also survived by her aunt, Elinor Creagh and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandsons, Matthew Hunt and Jeremiah Cadigan.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, October 19 at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at Noon. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial will be private. Donations in Arlene's name may be made to the Matthew K. Hunt Scholarship Fund at B.C. High School, 150 Morrissey Blvd., Dorchester, MA 02125.
