Arlene J. (Poggi) Higgins, 79, died Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Ralph F. Higgins. Born and raised in Dorchester, she was a longtime resident of Stoughton before moving to Sharon in 2004. She was a resident of Freetown for the past 2 years. Mrs. Higgins was a graduate of Boston Schools and Bristol Community College School of Nursing. She worked as a registered Nurse at the Goddard Hospital and later at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton and retired in 1996. She was a devoted and dedicated grandmother, who, in her free time, enjoyed swimming, collecting Beanie Babies and going on cruises.
Mrs. Higgins was the mother of Elizabeth J. Snell of E. Freetown and the late Donna M. Reis and Kristine A. Ledwell. She was the sister of Robert Poggi of VA and Joseph Poggi of Quincy. She was the beloved "Grammy" of Christopher Reis, Amanda Fenton, James Fenton, Jr. Angela E. Fenton, Katelyn K. Snell and Megan E. Snell-Maharjan.
Funeral Prayers will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, August 30 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the Prayers from 9-11 AM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donation in Arlene's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, POB 758571, Topeka, KS 66675.
