Antonio Lopes Fontes, 76, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 peacefully at his home in Stoughton. He was the loving husband of Antonieta Pontes Fontes for 50 years. He was born in Fogo, Cape Verde and lived in Cambridge before making Stoughton his home. After high school Antonio received degrees from UMass Boston, Leslie College and Cambridge College. He was employed as a teacher at the King Open School (formerly Harrington School) in Cambridge. He was a former executive director at the Cambridge Organization of Portuguese Americans (COPA). Mr. Fontes was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and also served as a lector. In his free time Antonio liked following soccer and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Antonio is survived by his children : Silvestre Fontes and his wife Katina, Alvaro Fontes, Evandra Fontes and her significant other Jose Aravena, Adelina Fontes Afonseca and her husband Jorge, Isabel Fontes DePina and Livia Fontes. He is survived by his 11 grandchildren : Katerina Fontes, Antonio Fontes, Victoria Fontes, Nzinga Malaika Moore, Gabriela Aravena, Cecilia Aravena, Tevin Afonseca, Alexander Afonseca, Maxwell Afonseca, Samuel DePina and Sofia DePina.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St. (Rte 27) Stoughton on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held Monday from 4-8PM in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Antonio's memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church at the above address.
