Antonio L. Escobar, 82, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Copley at Stoughton on Sunday, November 17, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Maria R. (Duarte) Escobar. Son of the late Jose and Julia (Escobar) Serpa, he was born and raised in Flores, Azores, Portugal. Antonio moved to Stoughton in 1972. He was a machine operator at Plymouth Rubber in Canton for over 20 years before retiring at age 62. Antonio was a member of the Sociedade Filarmònica São João, Club Luis De Camoes and the Portuguese National Club, all in Stoughton. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and gardening.
Antonio is survived by his daughters, Maria Danue and her husband Jim of Clearwater, FL and Alvarina Oliveira and her husband Antonio, Aurelia Oliveira and her husband Jose and Julie Ramos and her husband Mario all of Stoughton. He was the grandfather of Nancy, Lisa, Christopher, Derek, Jordan, Cameron and the late Marissa and the great-grandfather of John and Fiona. He was the brother of Jose Serpa of Stoughton, Luis Escobar of Flores, Portugal, Albertina Mendonca of Lowell, Ernestina Jorge of California and the late Frank Serpa and Maria Gomes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Friday, November 22 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
