Anthony A. Goodman

Anthony A. Goodman, 93, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Southeast Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Easton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Gloria M. (DiCastro) (Ventresco) Goodman and the late Florence (Damadio) Goodman. Born and raised in Stoughton, he was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools, Class of 1943. Immediately upon graduation he was called to duty to serve in the US Army during WWII. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and participated in the invasion of Europe on D-Day, landing on Utah Beach on Christmas Eve, 1944. He served with the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion and fought in several major battles of the European Campaign, including Cherbourg to the Hurtgen Forest to the Battle of the Bulge. He worked in the textile industry for many years, until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the VFW in Stoughton and the Avon Fish & Game, where he was the Past President and Treasurer. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling to Foxwoods, playing cards and traveling.

Mr. Goodman leaves his 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the services from 9-11 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Tony's Memory may be made to the Avon Fish & Game, 113 Granite St., Avon, MA 02322.
