Anna Catherine (Martell) Garneau

Anna Catherine (Martell) Garneau of Dorchester, passed peacefully in her sleep, on January 3, 2022 at the incredible age of 100 years old. Born at home in Roxbury, on August 25, 1921 to Johanna (Crowely) Martell and John Edmund Martell, Anna was one of 7 children - all which have predeceased her; Joseph Martell, Martha Zamagni, Mary MacSwain, Adeline Day, Alice King and John Martell. She was also predeceased by her husband Joseph Garneau and 2 children, Ellen and Thomas Garneau. Anna is survived by 3 children, Joanne (Garneau) Pereira and her companion Al Viera, Edward Garneau and his wife Carol and Jeanne (Garneau) Mourad. Anna has left behind a legacy in terms of family, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

One of the Greatest Generation, Anna was truly a strong and independent woman who could do just about anything. Her mantra in life was "Use it up, use it out, do with it or do without"; she was the original recycler. She made every meal from scratch, made clothing, curtains, painted rooms, hung wallpaper and could grow anything from a seed. Anna was the ultimate homemaker. She taught those she loved to keep moving forward through good and bad times as "this too shall pass". She believed in being with people and family who loved to laugh. She taught us all how to laugh with each other and at ourselves. Born before antibiotics and sliced bread, Anna thought that Vicks, fresh air and walking were the cure for just about everything in life. While she will be greatly missed by those who knew her, there is true comfort in knowing she lived every day of her 100 years on this earth to her fullest.
