Andrew Henry Thomas, 91, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Braemoor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Virginia (Stallings) Thomas. Born in Stoughton, son of the late Thomas and Regina Zurauskas, he was a graduate of the Boston Trade School. During WWII, he served as an officer in the 212th Armored Field Artillery Battalion assigned to one of General Patton's Third Army divisions. Later in the war, he volunteered for service in the Philippines and for the impending invasion of Japan, serving with the 25th Infantry Division. Following his military service, he earned advanced degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and worked at several Boston Area high tech companies. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and was a Registered Professional Engineer. He enjoyed and collected antique cars.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Thomas is survived by his children, Judith Bodette of Stoughton, Lawrence Thomas of Easton and Martin Thomas of Quincy. He is survived by a sister, Rena Moran of Florida and was predeceased by 5 brothers and sisters. He was also survived by 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, January 20 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Monday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Andrew's name may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
