Alfredo C. Nunes, 79, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Aida (Teixeira) Nunes. Born on the island of Flores in the Azores, he was raised and educated in Flores. Mr. Nunes was a resident of Stoughton from 1969 until 1986. In 1986, along with his wife and two youngest children, he returned to Flores, where he lived until 2016. In 2016, he moved back to the States and settled in Pawtucket, RI and moved in with his son and family. While living in Stoughton, he worked as a carpenter at Sharon Box Lumber in Sharon. While in Flores, he worked as a farmer. He was a gifted and passionate woodworker who loved to make furniture and historic replica houses. He was a member of the Club Luis de Camoes and San Joao Filharmonic Society both in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Mr. Nunes is survived by his children: Avelina M. Kelley and her husband Jack of Foxboro, Tina M. Hogan and her longtime companion Jeff Cerretani of Melrose and Fred T. Nunes and his fiancé Jennifer Fortune of Pawtucket, RI. He was the grandfather of Jennifer and Jeffrey Silva, Matthew and Brian Kelley, Jessica, Sean and Patrick Hogan, Nicole, Madison and Liam Nunes. Mr. Nunes was the brother of Alberto Nunes of Portugal, Catarina Sousa of Stoughton and the late Maria Gouveia, Esmenia Cabral and Roberto Nunes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
