Alfred R. Racicot, 89, died peacefully at Epoch of Sharon on Monday, July 1 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Ruth (Griffin) Racicot. Born in Cambridge, he was a graduate of Limerick High School in Limerick, ME. Until recently, he was a resident of Stoughton, and had previously lived in Falmouth, MA, Denmark, ME and Medford, MA, where he and Evelyn raised their family. Mr. Racicot served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of World War II. He was a dairy farmer in his youth and a shipbuilder at the Portsmouth Shipyard during part of World War II. He worked in heavy machine maintenance for T.R.W. in Cambridge for 29 years before retiring back to Maine. He enjoyed macramé, gardening and chair caning and was involved for many years with the Boys Scouts of America.
Mr. Racicot is survived by his sons, David Racicot and his wife Margaret "Peggy" of VA, John Racicot and his wife Nancy of N. Attleboro, Philip Racicot and his wife Mary of Scituate and Mark Racicot and his wife Susan of Stoughton. He was the brother of Edward Racicot of Webster, Lionel "Ernie" Racicot of Shrewsbury, David Racicot of Alfred, ME and the late Fernand "Joe" Racicot, Paul Racicot, Maurice Racicot, Armand Racicot and Germaine Plante. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 19. Visiting Hours Thursday, July 18 from 4-7 at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton. Interment will be private.
