Alfred W. Leoffler, 86, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, October 20. He was the husband of the late Gertrude M. (Galvin) Leoffler. Born in Central Falls, RI, he was a graduate of St. Raphael's Academy, Class of 1942 in Pawtucket, RI and Providence College, Class of 1950 with a B.S. in Chemistry. Mr. Leoffler was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Stoughton for 48 years. He was a salesman for Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceutical for many years before retiring 20 years ago. Mr. Leoffler was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton. Prior to its closing he was a longtime communicant and Lector at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Stoughton. He was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Manor and Good Samaritan Medical Center both in Brockton and Goddard Rehab. Center in Stoughton. An avid golfer, in particular at Easton Country Club, he also was a member of the Foxboro Cribbage League and Our Lady of the Rosary Bowling League.
Mr. Leoffler is survived by his children, William A. Leoffler and Margaret M. Reiche both of Brockton, Rosemary Leoffler of Sharon, Anne Schuler of Middleboro, Thomas L. Leoffler of Marshfield, John G. Leoffler of Stoughton and Theresa M. Beauregard of Upton. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He was the brother of the late Ida Leoffler. He was also preceded in death by his companion, Joyce Keenan.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 23 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Al's name may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West St., Brockton, MA 02301.
