Alfred D. Govan, 83, died at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood on Friday, January 12. He was the husband of the late Vera F. (Parker) Govan. Born and educated in Boston, Mr. Govan was a resident of Canton for 5 years after living in Dorchester for many years. Mr. Govan was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a presser for Queens Cleaners in Waltham for 15 years before retiring in 1985. In his free time he enjoyed watching TV and listening to music. He also loved dogs.
Mr. Govan is survived by his daughter, Karen A. Grimshaw and her husband Frederick of Canton and his sister, Juanita Parham and her husband Lloyd of Bourne. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest Govan, Jr., Robert H. Govan and Oliver F. Govan.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, January 17 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at New Calvary Cemetery in Boston. Donations in Alfred's name may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
