Albert L. “Chip” Howsen, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Stoughton on October 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband to Marie Bernadette (Mulroy) Howsen for 46 loving years. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Albert L. Howsen, Sr. and Marjorie E. (Cluff) Howsen. He lived in multiple states as a kid when his father was in the Navy, before settling in Stoughton, remaining a longtime resident of the town and graduating from Stoughton High School, Class of 1967. Chip began driving trucks out of high school for local companies. He then joined his friends as the lighting and sound technician for the Lewis & Clarke Expedition show band. The band members paid a beautiful tribute to Chip recently in a dedication video and wrote “You made the Lewis & Clarke Expedition roll”. After the band, he became a cross-country, long-haul driver enabling him to visit all 48 contiguous states. He then went on to work at Teamsters Local 25 out of Boston for 25 years before retiring at age 62. Making many close friendships with his co-workers, he was dedicated to his work and valued as a friend and employee. Chip was a big Disney guy, making sure to visit every other year with his kids and continuing throughout the years as much as he could. His sense of humor was treasured by his family and those who knew him may describe him as ‘infectious to be around’. Above all, his greatest passion was taking care of his loved ones and being “Papa” to his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Chip is survived by his sons Christopher Howsen and his wife Sarah of Stoughton, and Matthew Howsen and his wife Jennifer of Norwood. He was the dear “Papa” to Bailey, Killian, Ethan, Connor, Brooklyn, Nickolas, and Kennedy Howsen. He was the brother to Patricia DeLoughrey and her late husband Jack, and Jill Downs and her late husband John. Chip also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street, (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday October 28th from 9-11 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chip’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give.
