Alban C. "Al" Martin, 77, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, August 3. He was the husband of the late Patricia L. (Davis) Martin. Born in Stoughton, he was a graduate of St. Mary's School in Stoughton and B.C. High School, Class of 1949. Mr. Martin was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was the owner of Martin's Model Market in Stoughton for many years before becoming the manager of East Side Package Store in Brockton for 20 years. He most recently drove vehicles for The Autobahn in West Bridgewater for the past 10 years. Mr. Martin was Chairman of the Board of Directors at Stoughton Cooperative Bank for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post 1645 and American Legion Post 89 both in Stoughton, the 88th Infantry Division Assn. and the "Romeo Club." He was active in Stoughton sports, managed a Stoughton softball team and played CYO basketball in his youth.
Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter, Cheryl A. Hutchinson and her husband David of W. Bridgewater. He is also survived by several cousins.
Funeral Prayers will be offered from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, August 6 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior from 9-11 AM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Al's name may be made to American Diabetes Assn., PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
