Alan R. Purdy, 67, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of the late Karen L. (Pedersen) Purdy. Born in Wareham, he was raised and educated in Abington and was a graduate of Abington High School. Mr. Purdy was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a longtime resident of Stoughton. He worked for the United States Post Office as a Letter Carrier in Roxbury for many years, retiring several years ago. After his retirement, he worked as a Crossing Guard for the Town of Stoughton for over 5 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Stoughton and the Letter Carriers Union. Mr. Purdy was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox who enjoyed traveling. In his free time, he enjoyed playing Keno, watching classic TV shows and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Mr. Purdy was the father of Heath R. Purdy and his wife Lori of Dedham, Rachel B. Murphy of NY and the late Timothy C. Purdy. He was the grandfather of Jocelyn R. Purdy, Kylie Lurane Gomes, Colin James Purdy, Cailyn Rose Purdy and the late Brendan Michael Murphy. Alan was the brother of Lorraine Sweetman of NY, Marjorie DeDoming of Randolph, Joanne O'Brien Sanchez and Ronald Purdy both of Brockton and the late Edward Purdy. He welcomed his first great grandchild, Kastiel Alan, earlier this month. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in the Farley Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the services from 9-10AM. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM. Donation in Alan's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.
