Alan C. Crombie, 90, died peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Brockton, with his loving family at his side. Born in Newport, ME, son of Charles and Clara Crombie, he was raised in Kenduskeag, ME and was a graduate of Bangor Schools. After graduating from High School, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut and began working for Pratt-Whitney as a riveter. He then entered the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served for two years as a Private, piloting personnel landing craft. After an Honorable Discharge, Alan moved to Boston where he attended the Butera School of Art studying commercial art, graduating in 1958. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Towle Art Studios, a company he eventually acquired in 1963, with offices on Boylston Street in the Back Bay. In 1963, he met the love of his life Marian, and they married on June 27, 1964. They resided in Allston before moving to Stoughton later that year, becoming members of the Avon Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for more than 25 years. In 1971, Alan decided to move his studios to Stoughton where he could spend more time with the family. An automobile enthusiast and avid jazz fan, Alan spent many Sundays listening to his large collection of albums, always followed by traditional family dinners. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, bike riding, skiing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Marian, he is survived by his children, Craig A. Crombie and his wife Sara of FL, Scott C. Crombie and his wife Maria of Berkley and Karen S. Willett and her husband James of NH. He was the grandfather of Dakota Allen, Samuel, Kyle and Ayden Crombie and Colin and Makenzie Willett. Alan was the brother of Vaughn Crombie and his wife Mary of LA and the late Kenneth Crombie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 9:30-11:30 AM followed by Funeral Prayers at 11:30 AM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30 PM.
