Adelina E. (Espirito) Leonardo

Adelina E. Leonardo, 97, of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 14, 2025. Adelina was born and raised in the city of Santa Cruz on the Island of Flores in the Azores of Portugal in 1927. She was married to her late beloved husband Antonio Leonardo for 48 years before his passing in 1993.They had seven children together, unfortunately due to medical complications losing the two youngest. In 1961 they immigrated to the United States, settling in California as a family of seven.

There she was a dedicated, loving and hardworking wife and mother working long hours in the farming industry to help provide for her family. Several years later they moved and relocated to Stoughton, MA in 1969 where they would raise their family and create a lifetime of memories.

She worked at Avon Corrugated, making boxes and later at Cumberland Farms making ice cream sandwiches. She was a woman of all trades from baking delicious homemade bread, cookies and many other sweet treats, along with gardening, crocheting beautiful blankets for all of her grandchildren, along with praying the rosary. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, this truly made her the happiest.

She is survived by her loving children Joao “John” Leonardo, Maria Jose “Mary Jo” Serpa and spouse Diodoto E. Serpa, Antonio “Tony” Leonardo all of Stoughton, Ma and her beloved late children Maria Fatima Dias and late spouse Jose A. Dias of Easton, Ma, Jose “Joe” Leonardo and his surviving wife Dolores A. Leonardo of Stoughton, Ma and twins Moisah and Maria Ann Saio Sant of Santa Cruz, Flores. She is also the sister of the late Jose Espirito and Maria Celina Espirito of Santa Cruz, Flores, Portugal.

In addition to her children she is survived by her brother Angelo Espirito of Flores, Portugal. As well as nine grandchildren, Joe Dias and spouse Corrina, David Leonardo and spouse Janet, Tony Dias and spouse Sandra, Maria Dias, Alfredo Dias and spouse Jodie, Marie Adelina Dias Sousa, Missy Tocci and spouse Steve, Steven Serpa, and Melissa Foley and spouse Patrick, along with twenty five great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and another on the way, and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her family would like to thank nurse Andrea from Beacon Hospice for the amazing care given to Adelina .

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will take place from the funeral home on Thursday, March 20. 2025 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
